How do Regional Offices help HHS?

HHS regional offices are hosted by the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs and provide many benefits to the federal government.

  • There is a network of federal officials in the existing Regional Network (RN) that helps to establish proper communication and coordination.
  • It works like a bridge between the federal government and Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities throughout the United States.
  • The main responsibility of RN is to maintain a good and healthy relationship between the federal government and AA and NHPI communities.
  • RN manages this relationship-building task with the help of 400+ officials of the federal agency in 10 regions.

Regional Directors Appointed by Biden Government

As we know the president appoints a regional director in each regional office of HHS. Joe Biden’s government has also appointed new regional directors in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as per their strategy to rebuild the partnership and communication at the local level.

On April 26, 2022, the Biden government made changes in the leadership team for the three HHS regional offices.

  • Ala Stanford was appointed the HHS Regional Director for Region 3.
  • Antrell Tyson was appointed the HHS Regional Director for Region 4.
  • Janine Boyd was appointed the HHS Regional Director for Region 5.

The main objective of this new leadership is to establish the proper communication channel, rebuild trust within communities, provide relief that happened due to the coronavirus pandemic, and help in the economic recovery, and climate change.

The White House said in their briefing “They bring deep expertise in their issue areas as well as critical relationships with federal, state, tribal, and local leaders. Consistent with the President’s commitment to building an administration that looks like America, these regional appointees represent the diversity of America and the communities they serve“.

Later on January 5, 2023, the president appointed two new regional directors in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services along with three GSA administrators.

  • Elliot Doomes was appointed the GSA Regional Administrator for Region 11.
  • Jason Shelton was appointed the GSA Regional Administrator for Regions 4 and 7.
  • Sukhee Kang was appointed the GSA Regional Administrator for Regions 9 and 10.
  • Everett Handford was appointed the HHS Regional Director for Region 1.
  • Jeffrey Reynoso was appointed the HHS Regional Director for Region 9.
