How to Login into the Virtual Gateway if you are a first-time user?
If you are accessing your account the first time after completing the registration process then the login process is slightly different.
Please note that you must receive a temporary password that you will have to enter to create a new password for your account. Please check the steps below.
- Visit the official website https://www.mass.gov/.
- Open the Virtual Gateway login page.
- Enter your user ID and the temporary password you got in the email.
- If you are a new user, you will see an Incomplete Profile page.

You will have to complete the below steps.
- Accept the terms and conditions – Enter your temporary password in the given space. Read the Virtual Gateway Terms and Conditions and select the I Agree to terms and conditions checkbox.
- Change your password – Enter your temporary password and create a new password. Please check the password requirements before creating a new password.
- Answer security questions – Now you will have to set up security questions that will be required to reset your password in the future. Write answers for at least 5 secret questions that you can easily remember. After that, click the Complete Sign-In button to save the answers to security questions.
You will be redirected to the Business Service page. You can now manage your account or access any service.

You can access the virtual gateway through the direct link. Click the direct link https://sso.hhs.state.ma.us/ and enter your login credentials to access your account.
How to Recover Your Virtual Gateway Account Login?
If somehow you are not able to access your account then there is a self-service account recovery facility available for all account holders. Please follow the below steps to recover your account.
User ID recovery:
You can not recover your user ID through the self-service option. To recover your user ID, please call Virtual Gateway Customer Service Number 1-800-421-0938.
- Visit the Virtual Gateway login page https://sso.hhs.state.ma.us/vgportal/login.
- Click the Forgot Password link on the login screen.
- On the next page, enter your User ID and press the Submit button.
- Now answer the two security questions that you have set up after logging in for the first time.
- Click the Submit button.
- You will receive an email including a new temporary password.
- Now again open the Virtual Gateway login page enter your user ID and the new temporary password and sign in to your account.
- On the next screen, create a new password and click the Submit button.
How to Register a New Virtual Gateway Account?
- Visit the Virtual Gateway web page.
- Click the “Create a Virtual Gateway account” link.
- You can also visit the registration page directly at https://sso.hhs.state.ma.us/vgportal/selfRegistration.
- There are two steps to register a new account.
- In the first step, read all the terms and conditions and select the check box. You can also check the Virtual Gateway account Terms and Conditions.
- In the second step, enter your personal information such as name, email, and date of birth.
- Please create a 4-digit PIN for your account.
- Complete other steps and create a new password for your account.
- Finally, click the Submit button.
